Under general supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position will be responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director in management, hands-on aquatic work, and administrative duties to provide a safe environment where members and guests of all ages, cultures, and abilities can enjoy the pool area. Also, assists the Aquatics Director in the management and operation of a clean, safe, and organized concession stand, per the guidelines of the Health Department, while providing excellent customer service and a positive work environment for our employee's.

  1. *Supervises all lifeguards and guest services staff to include assisting the Aquatics Director in matters of discipline, scheduling and timekeeping.
  2. *Maintain safe swimming conditions in pool, on pool deck, and surrounding areas, enforcing health and safety rules.
  3. *Prevent accidents by scanning assigned zone from bottom to top and covering zone in compliance with the 10/10 rule.
  4. *Maintain emergency readiness and be ready to respond to emergency situations in accordance with the City of New Albany policies and procedures, completing incidents and accident reports as necessary in a timely manner.
  5. *Responds to and provides emergency assistance and care/treatment as trained until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  6. *Control and report unruly behavior and evict not adhering to behavior protocols.
  7. *Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with patrons, participants and co-workers.
  8. *Ability to work with bodily fluids to include cleaning feces, urine and vomit as needed.
  9. *Maintain accurate records as required.
  10. Perform routine maintenance of pool, locker rooms, and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.
  11. *Perform swim tests as required by the City of New Albany policies.
  12. *Supervise and lead a team of concession workers.
  13. *Knowledge of basic math; maintain accurate cash handling procedures at all times.
  14. *Accurately take and prepare customer(s) order.
  15. *Ability to prepare food orders as required and have good food/beverage presentation.
  16. *Maintain and keep a clean work area.
  17. *Have superb knowledge and understanding of all Floyd County Health Department rules and regulations.
  18. *Be present during concession stand inspections by Floyd County Health Department.
  19. *Maintain inventory and stock items as necessary.
  20. *Perform, daily , chemical testing and other necessary functions.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

  3. Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  4. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.

  1. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
  2. Must be able to easily move through all program areas and effectively communicate and actively interact with customers.
  3. Ability to work as a team member.
  4. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Lifeguard candidates should have a minimum hearing threshold of no more than an average of a 25-decibel loss in both ears over a range of frequencies. Candidates who use hearing aids or other corrective devices for hearing should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, retrieve, or install or attach a hearing aid or corrective device.
  5. Candidates who use corrective eyewear should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, clear, or retrieve corrective eyewear.
  6. Display professional appearance, warm demeanor and positive attitude.
  7. Be a motivated self-starter.
  8. Work independently and to be accurate, efficient and organized.
  9. Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently.
  10. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently.


  1. This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
  2. This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends will be required.
  3. The position involves being in an environment with recreational, aquatic and concession stand equipment


  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Be current in Lifeguarding, including CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid certification or equivalent.
  3. Willing to obtain Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of employment.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  5. A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.


  1. Current LGI ( Instructor) Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  2. Current WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  3. Current Serve Safe Food Handler Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  4. Current CPO (Certified Pool Operator) Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  5. Previous Management experience in Aquatics.
  6. Experience in food preparation.
