Under general supervision of the Aquatics Director and Aquatics Managers, this position will be responsible for assisting the Aquatics Managers in management, hands-on aquatic work, and administrative duties to provide a safe environment where members and guests of all ages, cultures, and abilities can enjoy the pool area.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. *Maintain safe swimming conditions in pool, on pool deck, and surrounding areas, enforcing health and safety rules.
  2. *Act as a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor or Guest Services staff member when necessary.
  3. *Serve as the on deck swim lessons supervisor.
  4. *Maintain emergency readiness and be ready to respond to emergency situations in accordance with the City of New Albany policies and procedures, completing incidents and accident reports as necessary in a timely manner.
  5. *Responds to and provides emergency assistance and care/treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  6. *Control and report unruly behavior and evict individuals not adhering to behavior protocols.
  7. *Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with patrons, participants and co-workers.
  8. *Assist with daily reports, records and scheduling related tasks.
  9. *Perform routine maintenance of pool, locker rooms, and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.
  10. *Perform, daily maintenance, chemical testing and other necessary functions.
  11. *Serve as the main point of contact for staff and patrons in absence of the Aquatics Director or Managers.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  1. Demonstrate informative and professional assistance when working with vendors, co-workers, and the public.
  2. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  3. Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  4. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  5. Complete projects and/or reports in accurate and timely manner
  6. Maintain City information in a confidential manner.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Remain alert and responsive to the needs of patrons and staff.
  2. Must be able to easily move through all program areas and effectively communicate and actively interact with customers.
  3. Ability to work as a team member.
  4. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Lifeguard candidates should have a minimum hearing threshold of no more than an average of a 25-decibel loss in both ears over a range of frequencies. Candidates who use hearing aids or other corrective devices for hearing should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, retrieve, or install or attach a hearing aid or corrective device.
  5. Candidates who use corrective eyewear should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, clear, or retrieve corrective eyewear.
  6. Display professional appearance, warm demeanor and positive attitude.
  7. Be a motivated self-starter.
  8. Work independently and to be accurate, efficient and organized.
  9. Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently.
  10. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently.

WORKING ENVIORNMENT AND CONDITIONS

  1. This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
  2. This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends will be required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and TRAINING

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. 6 months to 1 year experience in a managerial role.
  3. Be current in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, including CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid certification or equivalent.
  4. Blood Borne Pathogens training with 30 days of employment.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  6. A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
  7. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Current LGI (Lifeguard Instructor) Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  2. Current WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  3. Current Serve Safe Food Handler Certification OR the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  4. Previous Management experience in Aquatics.
