This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operation of the City of New Albany's recreation centers. Recreation Center Leaders will organize, instruct, promote, lead and conduct a diversified recreational program for ages 5-13.  They must be able to implement weekly activities in cooperation with co-workers.  Will provide food for and feed youth.  They will make daily inspection of equipment and facility to ensure safety.  They will be responsible for all required paperwork, ensuring documents are properly prepared and turned in on time.  They must demonstrate common sense with disciplinary action of youth and adhere to all rules and agency policies

The Recreation Center Leader is a part time year round position with a typical schedule of 3-4 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, but extra hours may be required.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. *Assists with planning, organizing and implementing recreational activities for children, ages 5 -13 years old at a recreation center.
  2. *Be familiar with rules and regulations for all games and sports activities implemented for youth.
  3. *Provide snacks to the youth.
  4. *RReeinforce proper social skills with children and /or teenagers.
  5. *Report any problems or complaints to the center supervisor.
  6. *Must demonstrate common sense with disciplinary action of youth and adhere to all rules and agency policies.
  7. *Assist center supervisor with youth sign-in sheets and all necessary paperwork.
  8. May meet with community individuals and groups to generate interest, support, and ideas for programs using creative and innovative promotional ideas and materials.
  9. *Must perform job duties in a safe manner, reporting and assisting in correcting potentially unsafe conditions and able to use necessary equipment and materials properly.
  10. *A well-groomed appearance while on the job is required. Uniformed shirts issued by the department must be worn daily and appropriate footwear to avoid injury is required.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

  8. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  9. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

working environment and conditions

  1. This position requires working in both an internal and outside environment.
  2. This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and TRAINING

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is desired.
  2. Knowledge of City's park and recreation facilities, activities, and programs is helpful.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  4. A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
  5. CPR/First Aid certification, preferred.
  6. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.

  1. Possible use of computer and peripherals.
